What I learned
- The overall game development process.
- A doable idea is better than a great idea.
- Minimize the scope of the game so that you can spend more time on gameplay design and later polish.
- Knowing the target audience and experience goals are crucial for game design.
- How to efficiently coorporate with other team members.
- Most importantly, ENJOY the process.
Experience Goal
- Surprise/shock the player.
- Give a compelling motivation for escaping.
- Mixed emotions such as a fear of failure combined with humorous moments.
- Want the game to feel complete and sensible without any plot holes.
- Want players to describe our game as a well written escape game with multiple perspectives.
Setting Description
The story begins at nighttime in a rural wooded area in New England. A lonely house stands atop a hill surrounded by trees and darkness.
One character wakes up inside her home, but finds that the power has been cut off, the car no longer runs, and there appears to be someone else in the woods.
Another character finds himself in the middle of the woods without any explanation. He notices the house in the middle of the woods. Both have information telling them not to trust the other... A third person watches from a distance.
Characters
Gameplay
- Beginning Choice: Cryptic questions at the beginning of the game decide what path you start out with. Both paths tell the same story, however, in differnt perspectives.
- Inventory: A storage to hold clues and tools.
- Puzzles: Little mini games to make progress in the game.
- Story Choices: Critical decisions made later in the game can alter the course of the story.
